Privacy Policy

Effective August 2026. Replaces the policy dated January 1, 2023.

What personal information SKG Financial collects through this website, why we collect it, who we share it with, and how to get it back or have it deleted.

Who we are

SKG Financial Inc. is an accounting firm at Suite 400, Plaza 3400, 2000 Argentia Rd, Mississauga ON L5N 1V9, Canada. We are the organisation responsible for the personal information described here. This policy is written to meet our obligations under the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), which applies to private sector organisations in Ontario, and under Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) for the messages we send.

Text messages, and what we do not do with your number

We do not share customer opt-in information, including phone numbers and consent records, with any third party or affiliate for marketing or promotional purposes. Mobile information is shared only with the service providers who deliver the messages you asked for, and they may not use it for anything else.

  • Opt in. You receive text messages from us only if you ticked the SMS consent box on one of our forms. We keep a timestamped record of that consent.
  • What we send. Appointment confirmations, reminders, rescheduling updates and replies to your questions. Frequency depends on your own appointments and messages. We do not send promotional texts without separate consent.
  • Opt out. Reply STOP to any message. You get one confirmation and nothing after that. Requests are processed within 24 hours. Reply HELP, email [email protected] or call (416) 984-4007 for assistance.
  • Rates and delivery. Standard message and data rates may apply. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. The programme works with the major Canadian carriers, including Rogers, Bell, Telus, Fido, Koodo, Virgin Plus, Freedom Mobile and most regional carriers.

What we collect

  • Information you give us. Name, email address, phone number, business name, and anything else you type into a booking or contact form. If you become a client, the financial and tax information needed to do the work.
  • Booking and appointment records. What you booked, when, and the notes attached to it.
  • Basic technical information. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, which include IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting.
  • Payment details where you pay us, handled by our payment processor. We do not store full card numbers.

The free tools do not send us anything

The HST lookup, subcontractor check, salary versus dividend calculator, deadline checker and accountant self-check all run inside your own browser. None of them asks for an email address to work, and nothing you type into one is transmitted to us while you use it. Using a tool and closing the tab sends us nothing at all.

Two things send information, and both need you to click first. If you book a call from a results screen, the figures you entered, which may include a dollar amount, your year end or your score, travel with the booking in the web address so that we arrive at the call already knowing your situation. If you ask us to email you your results or your deadline reminders, you are giving us your email address and the result, and we use them for that purpose and to contact you about our services. You can stop either at any time.

Why we collect it

  • To answer your enquiry and prepare for a call
  • To provide the services you engage us for, and to bill for them
  • To meet our professional, tax and record-keeping obligations
  • To send the appointment messages you have consented to receive
  • To keep the site secure and to see which pages are worth keeping

Who we share it with

We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We share it only with:

  • Service providers who help us operate, including our scheduling and client relationship platform, our email and SMS providers, our payment processor and our accounting and document software. Each is contractually required to protect the information and to use it only for the service they provide to us.
  • Government authorities such as the Canada Revenue Agency, where you have authorised us to act for you or where the law requires it.
  • Law enforcement or a court, where we are legally obliged to respond.
  • A purchaser, if the practice is ever sold or merged. Your information stays subject to a policy no less protective than this one.

Where it is held

Some of our service providers store data outside Canada, including in the United States. While it is held in another country it is subject to the laws of that country, including lawful access by its authorities. We choose providers that commit to a comparable standard of protection.

How long we keep it

Enquiry information from people who do not become clients is kept for up to two years. Client records are kept for at least six years after the end of the last tax year they relate to, which is the retention period Canadian tax law requires, and longer where a matter is still open. Consent records for text messages are kept for as long as we operate the messaging programme.

How we protect it

We use encryption in transit and at rest, restrict access to the people who need it, and require multi-factor authentication on the systems that hold client information. We keep secure backups. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

If a breach of our security safeguards creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, and we will tell any other organisation or institution that can reduce the risk to you. We keep a record of every breach of our security safeguards for at least 24 months, whether or not it was reportable.

Cookies and analytics

This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising trackers. Fonts are served from this domain rather than a third party, so nothing about your visit reaches anyone else. The booking and contact forms are hosted by our scheduling platform, which sets its own cookies under its own policy.

Keeping it accurate

We take reasonable steps to keep the personal information we use accurate, complete and current. If anything we hold about you is wrong, tell us. We will correct it and, where it matters, tell anyone we passed the incorrect information to.

Your rights

You can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it where we are not required by law to keep it, and withdraw consent to future communications at any time. Email [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days.

If you think we have got it wrong

Email us and say so. We will acknowledge within five business days, look into it, and give you a written answer. If we were wrong we will say so and fix it. If you are still not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Email

We reply to enquiries you send us. We do not send marketing email without your consent. Any commercial message we send identifies us, gives our mailing address, and carries an unsubscribe link that we action within 10 business days.

Links to other sites

This site links to third-party sites, including our scheduling platform and Canada Revenue Agency pages. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, and you should read their policies before giving them information.

Changes to this policy

We update this policy from time to time. The current version always sits at this address with its effective date at the top. Material changes will be noted here.
